Genocide In Darfur

(Source: http://worldwithoutgenocide.org/advocacy)

The ongoing genocide in Darfur, Sudan has already claimed hundreds of Darfurians has become more larger each year. This has been affecting many of the people that are in the refugee camps because they can not live and go on with their lives like others around the world. Many survivors are terrified and can not get over it because of how much it has affected them. Unfortunately this issue is still going on today and amazingly no international forces are trying to stop it. Six separate rounds of peace talks have failed to halt the attacks. What will it take for international forces to intervene? Genocide has happened in Africa two times, one was in Rwanda, Africa and now it’s in Darfur, Africa. It is the act of violence, starvation and other means of destroying a race, in the case destroying the Black Africans in Darfur region. All these acts started when two rebel groups from Darfur that set in attack against the governments military installation to fight against political and economic marginalization of Darfur. Most of the world knows that many people in Darfur are dying each month because of these attacks. “Early in 2005, a United Nations (U.N.) humanitarian coordinator reported that 180,000 died over 18 months (6)-on the basis of extrapolation from the WHO estimate (7)” (Hagan and Palloni, “Death in Darfur”). It does not take a genius to know about this issue in Darfur and that more action should be and will be taken by the international forces.
The many different stories in Darfur Diaries Stories of Survival are really depressing stories because most of the people that were interviewed did not feel so comfortable telling their point of view to what is happening in Darfur. Ibrahim was one of the kids that told his story about what is happening in Darfur. He was ten years old and was really small for his age. Ibrahim was sitting out on a wooden platform when he was being asked question by Jen and Adam and showed them his sketches from a book that he had. They had asked him many questions, “Where is your house in the picture? Ibrahim pointed to the hut with flames lapping from it’s roof”( Jen, Darfur Diaries Stories of Survival). It’s really a sad way of viewing your own house, Ibrahim had to watch and experience himself his house burning down. It’s a depressed moment to know that a little kid going through this. Ibrahim said that he had no choice to just run away because everyone in his family had died. Not many people had the chance to escape from the Janjaweed but Ibrahim had the chance too.
What has people exactly been going to try to stop the Darfur Genocide? There has been help from the United Nations to keep the peace in Darfur. The UNAMID to this day are not having the type of resources to help the millions of Darfurians. To help you can sign a petition online to help the Darfurians and also stop the massive killings. This is to show the government that they should be doing something to help Darfur with this issue. Also to help you should give and donate money or even other things that darfurians might need. Help these people get back to the life that they want to live because right now they aren’t living the life. Call President Obama and urge him to stop the violence in Darfur because it has to stop and it will stop. You can also get an internship or even a job to respond to the genocide and other crimes too. Even though this is for graduates you can still go to marches and rallies to convince the government on stopping the genocide. There are many ways to help the people in Darfur and you need to help these people and they will be glad to have your help in any possible way, Help them they need it.
Unfortunately, Darfur genocide is actually a big issue around the world and still will be if their is no stopping it. Darfurians need the help and the possible only way that they can get the help is if you do something to help them. It’s a tragedy and still one because the genocide still continues in Darfur and international forces aren’t doing so much to stop this crime by the government. It’s hard to go through your own life and be thinking about or hearing about this genocide that is happening, more people need to step up and do more about it. The people that are in the refugee camps can not live their life how they wanted to because it just continues and will continue if we don’t do more about it. It’s time for us to stop this genocide and we can if we come together.

  1. I really feel like this is an important topic to adress and I agree with all your points. I feel like both sides are being stubborn and there is no reason that they shouldn't meet and come to an agreement. Its just sad that innocent people are being killed when they have no control over anything.
